Amanda Laughtland works two jobs (teaching English to community college students and checking books in and out for library customers) and lives with her partner in the suburbs of Seattle. In response to the editors' question about what keeps her moving forward as a writer, she offers the last four lines of poem #21 from Bunch Grass by Robert Sund: "I write brief poems / to strike a balance and keep / the day / from toppling over."
