Bill Garvey

“I live in Keene, New Hampshire with my wife, Jean. She and I raised our two children, both of whom live in Toronto, continuing their own educations. I am the Director of Information Technology for an insurance company, which may seem far removed from the labor of poetry, but I often console myself with thoughts of Wallace Stevens and Ted Kooser, who followed similar paths as mine, but much farther I must admit.

In the summer of 2005 I received my MFA in Poetry from New England College, working with an amazing group of poets like Michael Waters, Judith Vollmer, Alicia Ostriker and others. It was a great time and a wonderful experience. I have been published in The Worcester Review, 5AM, Diner, Slant: A Journal of Poetry, Lunarosity, Spitball (forthcoming in '07) and others.

One reason I continue to write—I am addicted to the satisfaction of creating a moment through the medium of words. I find excitement in the discovery words take me that I had not intended, as though these sounds we articulate are the guides on the journey into ourselves.”
