In answer to our question of why she writes, Felicia responded:

"My mother used to talk about how I talked late, quite late, spending years just mulling it all over in my head. A few years after I uttered my first words (a question), I learned to write and have been writing ever since. Writing helps me on a personal level to move ideas outside my head onto the page (perhaps into somebody else’s head). On a more public level, I share what I write with an innocent faith in the power of language to connect. Many of my poems are like small documentaries filtered through the lens of my psyche."
