Leonard A. Heid is a regionalist painter of the Palouse Prairie of Eastern Washington and Northern Idaho. The artist’s work conveys a sense of place and moment, echoing the history of the Palouse region and its people. Faithful representations of actual locations are central to his work. Leonard’s work captures the light and mood of the Palouse region and its varied contours. The motion and sublimity of the prairie inform his work as well. The painters of American Luminist School such as Martin Johnson Heade or George Inness, as well as the rest of the painters of the larger Hudson River School are a major influence for the artist.
