Floarea Ţuţuianu [pronounced “Tsu-tsu-ya'-nu”] is both a visual artist and a poet with four books of poetry, the most recent, The Art of Seduction (2002). She works as a graphic designer at the Romanian Cultural Institute Publishing House in Bucharest.

In answer to our question of why she writes, Floarea sent Adam J. Sorkin a short poem in Romanian, which he translated:

The Poet and Her Poetry

The poetry-queen is the Cinderella of literature
She doesn’t go shopping at the mall
or luxuriate in a spa.
Poetry is sold cheap but bought dear.
Globalization has no need of her.
Once in a while-
poetry extends life beyond death
by 300, 500 or 1,000 years.
