John McKernan

One Side

Of the skull
Is a skull

What is left over
From the calcium
Atoms of assorted cattle & sheep

The other side
Of the skull
Talks to the brain
Even when it is empty

That’s what the eye sockets are for
To hold
The Sun and Moon in place
To stare
Far off to infinity & not quiver
