Joseph Mains

“I live in Tucson, where I attend the MFA program in Poetry at the University of Arizona and work with at-risk teens developing reading and writing skills in a Head Start program. I like tattoos, shoes, and Kierkegaard.

Of all the reasons not to write—risk of mental stability, lack of social applause, etc.—there persists a hope in me that one day I might form words in just a way that allows a poem to be a heuristic tool in relaying some understanding or feeling that only exists beyond language. This hope keeps my typewriter clacking.”
