Addie Hopes hails from a small rural township in Northeast Ohio. Trading goats for the big city, she now lives with her husband, their cats, and untidy stacks of books in Brooklyn, New York. She teaches writing at Montclair State University.

In answer to our question of why she writes, Addie responded:

“Perhaps I’m intractably nosy. As a child, when I finally realized that other people kept secrets and told lies, I felt I’d discovered some murky and dangerous new world. I still feel that. Writing is spelunking with a penlight into places I have no business going; writing is trespassing, crossing the boundary between myself and others. What’s more fun than that?”
