Colette Tennant

Although I was born and raised in Columbus, Ohio, my parents and grandparents all came from Appalachia. They knew a wealth of folk beliefs I loved hearing. I’m an English professor at Corban College in Salem, Oregon, where I’ve taught for the last 15 years. I’m also a song writer. Lately I’ve mostly written children’s songs. I mention that because when asked to explain why I write, I have to say it’s because I hear music, and the music I hear is not a solo. It’s meant to be shared—usually as poems, sometimes as songs. My first poetry book, Commotion of Wings, will be published in 2010 by Main Street Rag.
