Lindsay Merbaum is a writer, teacher, and wanderer. Her stories have appeared or are forthcoming in PANK, Dzanc Books “Best of the Web,” Gargoyle, The Collagist, and Sojourn, among others. After teaching at a university in Quito for four years, she is now traveling around the US and working on her novel, a story of witches, prostitutes, volcanoes, and other magic in Ecuador.

Lindsay does not write because she imagines herself to be a genius, nor does she write because it’s an enjoyable pastime. Anyone who is serious about writing knows that it is painstaking work. Lindsay writes because she has stories to tell, and the telling is as natural to her as breathing. In other words, she writes for the same reason a dog licks its balls: because he can and it is in his nature to do so. If he stops licking his balls, or discovers he is somehow no longer able to, then he is not much of a dog anymore just as, without writing, she would no longer feel like much of a human.
